Friday February 12th @ about 350 am my husband, the love of my life, father of my children was in a motorcycle accident.
He was a few blocks from work, and on the back roads to his place of work there is a number of truckers that often park all over the road.
On this morning that seemed to be the case, when he was on Lone Mountain and Eaker st a semi-truck was stopped in the road with no lights flashing or turn signals on. So Craig went to pass, and as he was passing this truck driver, the truck started to turn right. Across Craig's lane. He dropped his bike trying to stop from hitting the truck. At that point, he slid underneath the semi. Head facing one set of tires feet facing the other between the truck and the trailer it was pulling.
The first set of tires hit Craig's hands when he tried to protect his head, pulling his hands in under the tires and tearing them up. After that all he remembers is being on the ground, the back tire was heading towards his head and that's when he blacked out.
The damage to his helmet indicates that his head was being smashed by the tires before the driver stopped however the helmet saved his life.
That morning was filled with trauma doctor's and the orthopedic surgeon's. The possible loss of his hands was real but didn't come to fruition.
However after all is said and done. I thank god he is still alive. We have come to realize that 1. He is hurt bad and 2. He could be in the hospital for some time. With surgeries, check ups, physical therapy and God only knows what else and all the cost that comes with it. To top it off he will be out of work for some time.
Thank god he works for such an amazing company who has been supportive and willing to help where they can.
***I have missed 3 days of work since this happened the day of the accident, and the first and second surgery.*****
Unfortunately my income didn't even come close to covering 1/4 of our normal everyday needs. With the few days I have missed to be here at the hospital to be by his side, get things organized at home, and trying to spend what little time I have had with the kids. I was imformed that they may not continue to employee me because im asking for to much time off.
We will need help for the next few months at the very least.
For now we need help with everyday things like the keeping the roof over our head, food, bills, co-pays, the extensive amount of child care that has been needed, diapers, gas, etc.
I would like to thank everyone for taking the time to read our story. Please share this page and anything helps.
