My name is Hillary Welzenbach. I have been close friends with Matt Leow and Sarah Cobler for 20 years.
Matt Leow was skiing on Valentines Day this year with his wife Sarah Cobler, his son Henry Leow, and friends Jonathen, Isaac and Gabriel Brunger at Discovery. While heading through the terrain park Matt took a jump and didn't land so well. He didn't realize it at the time but he exploded one of his lumbar spine. He was taken out by ski patrol, then the ambulence to Anaconda. There they discovered that his back was broken and there were pieces of bone in his spinal cord. His could still feel and move his toes and he was life flighted to Missoula's St. Pat's hospital. There he stayed 4 days and had surgury to remove the loose bone from encrouching on his spinal canal and put a rod in his back. Now he is back at home with Sarah and Henry and embarking on a gruelling next 3 months of recovery. To begin with he will need help with most basic tasks and will be only able to walk to the bathroom, couch, and bed.
Sarah and Matt had very full lives before this accident. Sarah is going to need lots of support to give Matt the care he needs while continuing her demanding job and doing a great job mothering Henry.
The money raised here will go towards cleaning of their house, and home health care services for Matt.
It would be ideal to be able to provide them with home health care services and cleaning starting Monday Feb. 22 when Sarah needs to go back to work.
This is a way that we as their community can show our support and care even if we are not able to actually come and clean or help with daily living for Matt.
So far the outpouring of emotinal support has been so great for this family. Please let me thank you in advance for allowing your support to continue in the form of financial support. We all would hope that if we found ourselves in a similar situation our community would come together to help us make it through.
