Our beloved friend Philip Burdick, age 33, was diagnosed with limb girdle muscular dystrophy in the year 2005. Though his MD has progressed at a rather slow rate compared to many others who suffer from this terrible disease, he is still actively deteriorating every day. Though treatment for MD rarely goes beyond regular physical therapy, we've recently been introduced to more scientifically advanced treatment options. The option we have chosen to pursue has a 92% success rate and will drastically slow his progression if not stop it completely. Philip is a prime candidate for this treatment not only because his LGMD 2B has the highest success rate, but also because of how slowly his condition has been progressing. The money raised will be going towards the treatment itself as well as other doctors appointments, hotel costs, and transportation, including plane tickets and car rentals.
Those who are close to Philip know that he is one of the most generous and optimistic people you will ever encounter. He is loved greatly by his ever supportive wife, Mandy, his daughter, Hailey, age 13, son, Trever, age 10, as well as countless friends. Philips day to day life is full of many obstacles, even the simplest tasks for you or I, such as getting in and out of a vehicle, walking up stairs, or even getting dressed every morning can be a significant struggle for him. He currently walks with a cane and has to crawl up stairs, but in time, if not treated he will have to rely on a wheelchair for mobility. Philip endures high levels of pain every day including sharp sensations that resemble being stabbed or electrocuted. These pains are fairly consistent throughout the day. Even though medications are recommended to manage his pain, Philip refuses to take them because he does not want to become reliant on medication to get through the day. Even while faced with these day to day challenges, Philip always remains positive with a smile on his face and hopeful for the future. He never complains and always puts others needs before himself without ever asking for anything in return. Philip loves his community immensely and with your help and donations he will be one step closer to obtaining a normal healthy life. We want to thank everyone who donates or even just shares to spread the word about our cause. We are all very greatful for your generosity and support for Philip during this time!
