On Thursday January 16th, I brought my wife to the ER at San Antonio Community Hospital in Upland Ca with flu like symptoms. She is also 21 weeks pregnant. After tests were run it was determined she had pneumonia in both her lungs. As our stay progressed so did the level of her pneumonia. On Friday she was put on a ventilator to improve her oxygen saturation. For a while it seemed to work. Then on Saturday her lungs were working so hard that the decision was made to put her on an ECMO machine. typically used in open heart surgery this device essentially does the work of her lungs for her. She has now been on this machine for 5 days now and there is no end in sight.
