Let's show the world how wonderful and diverse pitbulls are!
Three years ago, I started the process of organizing photo shoots up and down the eastern seaboard, asking for volunteers to bring their "Pitbulls" so that we could show the world the wonderfully varied family dogs that fall under this label.
140 dogs and 100+ families answered the call. Some of these dogs were pure bred American Pit Bull Terriers, others were the various degrees of Pit Bull mix that are broadly identified as "pitbulls."
The purpose of the project was to show how different one dog was from the next, but that the things that they had in common were that they were beautiful, they were loved, and they were considered by their owners and/or society to be "pitbulls" whether they had any American Pit Bull Terrier in them or not. It's equally as important to show dogs that are identified as Pit Bulls but are not, as it is to only show pure APBT's. As long as the law identifies these dogs by their physical traits, we must advocate for any dog that might be subject to discrimination under the "pitbull" label.
This total shown on this page is for publication of the first 100 books. To keep costs low, I will be publishing the books at a size of 9" x 7" in landscape format.
Self-publishing a professional quality coffee table book is costly, which is why I was trying to avoid it- but I would rather just get the project out there, instead of waiting.
The book includes beautiful headshots of each dog, portraits of the human and canine family members and a little bio for each canine participant, describing their history and what makes them special.
It's possible that a publisher will pick up the book someday, but I think we've waited long enough. Let's show the world how wonderful these dogs can be.
AND- the best part is that I'm donating at LEAST 10% of profits to shelters, pitbull rescues and pitties in need. It's all for the dogs. Once we cover publication costs, we'll know how much we can give!
I hope you will join me in finally sharing this project with the world!
