Help Moose

Friends & Family, Friends of Friends & Family, we have a humbling request for anyone willing to help. We understand that this country is in the middle of financial crisis, and we are not expecting much, but we would never think about something like this if we weren’t completely desperate for answers for our puppy, Moose.
On New Year’s Eve, our little Moosey had to be taken to the ER due to difficulty breathing and inability to stand. Upon X-Ray’s that night, he was found to have “masses” in his lungs. We were told he had Pneumonia, and most likely Cancer. After a week in the ICU, on IV antibiotics/fluids, breathing tubes, nebulizers, he was sent home with high dosages of antibiotics. Fast forward 6 weeks, after multiple medication changes, his X-ray’s had gotten worse - filled with so much infection, the “masses” were not visible anymore. We were then told he mostly has a collapsed lung, and may need it removed.
We needed to invest in multiple diagnosis tests, including blood panels, a CT scan and fine needle aspirate to his lungs to determine what was going on. Results were no collapsed lung, no bacteria, no fungal infection, just a whole bunch of “eosinophils” Fast forward another 3 weeks, a fourth set of X-Rays, his lungs still aren’t clearing
Currently, we are under the care of two vets here in CT. One theory is that Moose has a rare autoimmune disease called Eosinophilia Granuloma Complex secondary to Idiopathic Hypereosinophilic Disease. The other theory is that Moose needs to have all of the diseased lung removed due to chronic infection/scarring.
Moose was put on a high dosage of prednisone for the last 3 weeks, which seemed promising. He was eating, playing; his eyes were open, he was alert….until this past weekend. Moose had a setback that put him BACK in the ICU. Due to financial reasons, we were only able to keep him there for 1 night. Now, he is home but should be under 24 hour supervision due to his harsh breathing patterns and repetitive vomiting. He has lost about 15 lbs so far, unable to gain weight, eat, or play.. with no end in sight.
We’re trying to get him to Tufts Medical, but due to their skeleton crew, and hefty price, it is not feasible for us right now.
Ironically enough, we DO have pet insurance. We chose the “best” plan offered for a 10 week old puppy, and until we get other answers, their max reimbursement is $735 for the only definite diagnoses of Pneumonia. To put it in perspective, 1 night in the ICU costs $1,746.02; 1 emergency day visit $998.00; 1 X-ray "re-check" costs 572.40; CT scan 1,200; 'prolonged' hospitalization $5,874.71.
Below you’ll be able to see a little snapchat of the rollercoaster we’ve all been on in the past 3 months.
With all of that said, we are humbling asking for anyone’s help with getting our little guy to Tufts for ANY DEFINITE ANSWER or to offset the $15,000 already spent on medical bills.
For anyone unable to contribute, we please ask to keep your fingers crossed for Moose and pass this along. Every little bit helps ❤️❤️
With tremendous gratitude,
Justin , Ashley, & Moose
