Surgery and Healing
Donation protected
In March of 2016, Matt laid down to take a nap and woke up 5 months later in the hospital. He had a tracheostomy (a surgically created opening in his neck) which was connected to a ventilator that was keeping him alive. During his hospitalization, Matt had two massive strokes and a serious complication with his pancreas. He had several surgeries during this time. One such surgery was to separate his abdominal muscles leaving him disfigured and unable to recognize his own body in the mirror.
Matt spent a total of a year in hospitals recovering, learning how to talk, walk, and write again. During his long recovery, Matt lost his business, various close relationships, his income, and his home. He had to start his life over from scratch.
Matt now works at one of the hospitals he recovered in helping patients who are in a similar situations move forward in their recovery offering hope and guidance for those who have also experienced a life changing event. He takes great pride in his work and in helping others. He loves giving back to his community and to those who helped him in his own recovery. Matt was given a second chance and a new lease on life and he is determined not to squander it. He loves to spend time with his children and experience all life has to offer because he knows that it can be taken away at any moment.
Matt has the amazing opportunity to have surgery to correct the muscles in his abdomen and be able to recognize himself in the mirror again. This surgery will help boost his confidence and self-image. After everything he has been through, he deserves to feel good about his body and what he has accomplished in the past 7 years.
As a friend to Matt and someone who believes that everyone deserves the best that life has to offer, I am asking for donations to assist Matt in his recovery from this (hopefully last) surgery. Matt will need to take 2-3 weeks off work and when he returns to work he will not be able to go back full time for some time. His only income is from his job and he will need some monetary assistance during the long period of recovery to assist with his bills including significant continued medical expenses, rent, and food. Please donate if you can. Any amount helps and I know that Matt is grateful for anything you have to offer to help him move forward into living his best life. He dedicates his time to helping others and now we have an opportunity to help him. Thank you.
