Hi, my name is Hilary, and I'm fundraising for my sister Jacky. She is having a financial crisis and needs help. The last few years have been very difficult for her and her husband, Allen. Our brother Simon had a stroke that left him paralyzed on one side, and she took over as his caregiver. Simon was forced to give up his rented house, so Jacky traveled by bus back and forth over 450 kms. several times at her own expense. On the last trip she packed up all of his belongings and arranged for them to be stored at her house in containers. Simon lived with Jacky and Allen for almost 2 years until he recently moved to a care home. By the time Simon pays his rent, medical fees, credit card debt and storage container rental fee, there is very little money left over and often Jacky pays for his personal needs herself.

For many years Allen and Jacky supported themselves with their home based "Mom & Pop" logging business. At the onset of COVID their business like many others collapsed. Allen has been diagnosed with dementia and is unable to work. He needs constant supervision. Their income now relies solely on their Old Age Security and Canada Pension. Right now, bills can't be paid as winter tires for their vehicle were critical. Allen recently needed to have all of his teeth removed but they can't afford dentures for him at this time. Jacky needs dental work and they have to make upgrades on their heating system in order to renew home insurance. Their family has stepped up to help with some of the household maintenance as Allen can no longer look after things properly. Family has been generous in the past by helping out financially but it's just not enough.
