Sal’s Medical Expenses

Four years ago my cousin Sal was diagnosed with stage four colon cancer that rapidly traveled to his liver. Sal has always been a resilient and determined person, as he took the same approach for his fight against cancer. Unfortunately, his battle is coming to an end since there is no more effective ways in which the doctors can help him. They have recently notified us that this fight can be over in the next couple of days or even weeks. The inoperable tumor on his liver is causing his health to deteriorate by the second. He is currently fighting a bad case of pneumonia that is also affecting his heart and his ability to breathe on his own. Along with the tremendous amount of pain that he is in, my family is also extremely devastated by this uncontrollable situation. Sal has been one of the most genuine and caring persons I’ve known. From a tender and loving brother to an even more extraordinary son. My cousin has always felt the need to take care of my aunt as his two other brothers are in a different country. This situation has made him scared to transition due to the uncertainties he has about his mother’s life without him. Even as what the doctors are calling his last days, Sal still feels the need to provide for his mother. As a family we have decided that hospice is the best option for Sal in order to ensure his comfort to the best of our abilities, but with my aunt in and out of work due to her son’s unstable condition the possibility of funding this seems out of reach. Knowing that he is unable to go in peace due to his constant worry about his mom's financial instability, only pains us more.
