Shanti's Scoliosis Treatment
Donation protected
Thank you everyone, again, for such incredible support with the fundraising and support for Shanti's scoliosis treatment! We were in Fort Collins all week while Shanti recieved ten rounds of multi-station adjustments from a very knowlegable and pleasant staff. She was in pain especially the first day as they moved and shuffled her body back into place, but by the end of that first day she was excited to return because she could already feel the effects.
Shanti's treatment this week was successful, but her original curvature was more extreme than we had anticipated. It has been recommended that she undergo two weeks total care for optimal results. From just one week her major curve of 35 degrees decreased to 26 degrees, and the slightly less extreme, lower curve, decreased from 28 to 19 degrees. That's incredible! Already a lot of her acute pain has ceased, at least within her hips, and some in her lower back. Overall she feels much less tense, and with a better sense of alignment she feels relieved. When we started this campaign we understood she would only need one week, but they doctors judge this based on the degree and range of curvature, and hers were more on the higher end of this spectrum than we had assumed. This is an optimal time for her to be fully treated because her growth plates are still present, but she is nearly done growing, so her body is still maluable and can be adjusted before it wants to remain more fixed. So here we are, asking for any help you might be able to provide for this second and final week of Shanti's straitening. This second week would take place in August before the school year started, and while it will be the same number of treatments as this first week, it will cost considerably less than the original set. We really need some help! If you didn't get a chance to donate before, or you have anything to spare to support the final leg of her treatment, thank you!!!! If you do not, again Thank You genuinly for the thoughts and prayers and Shares!! We are forever grateful for every kind of support to get this girl healthy and in the right direction <3
original post from first gofundme round:
{I am not sure how many of you know this, but Shanti has scoliosis. The curves in her spine create an S-shape, and the greatest degree in her spine's curvature is nearly 30 degrees from verticle, where it should be. I can say, as her mother who also has scoliois, that some of her more recent issues with her condition might be due to her adamant studying habits and generally stressful schedule. She is a really hard worker, and while we are working regularly to get her scoliosis yoga class, and address sitting positions she studies in for long periods of time, her condition in the last year has still greatly worsened. At her school dance a couple of months ago she had difficulties staying on her feet because she was experiencing pain in her lower back, and everytime she sleeps in an unfamiliar bed with less support than her own, she experiences shooting pain in her hip and leg. We only noticed the abnormality in her back a couple of years ago, and since then it has only become more extreme and painful :(
Traditional doctors don't really have anything in their toolbelt for scoliois except for surgery, and this is used only in the most extreme and debilitating stages. We are not there, and do not ever wish to be there, of course. We have done a bit of further research and have found two specialized programs that might improve her condition. The one that seems the most promising is an intensive, week long, four hours per day, regiment, and while this is really intense, the practitioners claim that a 25%-50% decrease in curvature and pain can be expected after this time, and they also provide extensive home practices to maintain gained improvements post-proceedure. We need this to happen so Shanti can continue to be the awesome and dedicated student, vollunteer, and active young lady she is currently, hopefully with improved agility and comfort.
If there is anyway you could throw a little money this way, if there is anything you can spare to donate to this procedure, we would be forever grateful.}
