Listening matters. And the Waterloo Writing Project is listening to its community. The Waterloo Writing Project is a third space writing center for students on the east side of Waterloo. Through dialogue with students and community members, Alyssa Bruecken and Kevin Roberts, founders of the WWP and local educators, felt called to provide additional opportunities for young people to share their voices. We've been listening, and the WWP has been moved by what they've heard.

The Waterloo Writing Project's mission statement:
The Waterloo Writing Project is a nonprofit organization dedicated to supporting student writing skills and communication, and to helping teachers inspire their students to write.
The WWP provides a space for students to engage in transformative activities. Through writing to reflect and writing with respect to their experiences, students recognize their role as active participants in their community.
With this in mind, the Waterloo Writing Project provides one on one support with reflection and dialogue, exposure to community experts, opportunities to engage in thematic, interest or problem-posing writing groups, and assistance with student publication and performance.

The WWP empowers students through their own voice - enriching the lives of our students, coordinators, and community.

In line with our vision of the transformative power of writing and dialogue, Kevin purchased a nearly century old church in a historic neighborhood of Waterloo. We're looking to add an additional bathroom for our young authors, a handicap accessible ramp, and several other additions at the request of our young authors (e.g. decorations for the walls, tables, comfortable chairs). With the purchase of the building, the Waterloo Writing Project is asking for donations to help with utilties and maintance as well.
