Dear friends,
My name is Bimala Ghising, and together with my sister Anita, we have been running Yangchenma Academy School since 2018. It is a non-profit, independent school located in Doramba Sailung Municipality, Ramechhap District, about 120 km east of Kathmandu, at an elevation of 3,138 meters.
The school was originally founded in 2007 by 20 local visionaries, but by 2018, it faced closure due to a financial crisis. As locals, we could not bear to see such a vital institution vanish from our community. Driven by the hope of offering children a better future, we took on the responsibility of saving the school.
Our Mission :
Yangchenma Academy offers affordable, high-quality education to children from this rural, mountainous region, many of whom would otherwise be forced to migrate to crowded cities just to study. By keeping the school open, we are helping families stay in their ancestral homes, protecting local culture, and preventing the fertile land from being abandoned and turning barren.
Running a school in the mountains presents unique challenges. Teachers must be offered higher salaries, free lodging, and food because they travel 1–2 days from their hometowns. Despite this, we keep school fees minimal, as most families rely solely on agriculture for their livelihoods.
Since 2018, we have personally dedicated all our time, energy, and resources to this cause. We offer free education to over 20 out of 86 students, many of whom are orphans or come from minority, economically disadvantaged backgrounds. Some students walk 1–2 hours each way to attend school each day.
Why do you need to support us?
While we offer a nurturing environment with extracurricular activities like yoga and meditation, we still lack proper classrooms and playground facilities. As a result, families continue to migrate to the city for better educational opportunities.
Your support will help:
• Improve classroom facilities and playgrounds
• Support the education of underprivileged students
• Sustain teacher salaries and accommodation
• Keep our village vibrant and prevent forced migration
Join Us :
We are humbly asking for your help to keep this beautiful village alive — to allow children to grow up surrounded by nature, fresh rivers, lush forests, and open skies. With your support, these children can thrive not only academically but also emotionally and spiritually as well.
Every contribution, no matter the size, will make a meaningful difference. Together, through compassionate hearts and peaceful intentions, we can help move the world from darkness to light.
If you would like to learn more or have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact us. We truly appreciate your kindness and support.
Thank you from the bottom of our hearts.
With kind regards,
Bimala Ghising and the Yangchenma Academy Team
