Standing by Jp on His Road to Recovery

In late October, our world was turned upside down when my brother, Joseph Pinkney (AKA Jp), was involved in a devastating head-on collision. The impact left him with multiple serious injuries including a partial aortic dissection, ruptured portal vein (which led to transfusions), several broken ribs on both sides, a lower back fracture, and internal trauma to other organs. He’s currently in the ICU at MedStar Washington Hospital Center showing incredible strength every single day.

Anyone who knows Jp knows he has one of the biggest hearts around. He’s the kind of person who would stop to help a stranger, lend a hand without hesitation, and give the shirt off his back if someone needed it. Seeing him in this condition has been heartbreaking, but even from his hospital bed, his spirit shines through — determined, kind, and full of fight.

The road ahead won’t be easy. Jp faces a long recovery filled with possible surgeries, therapy, and rehabilitation. While we’re so grateful that he’s still with us, the financial burden that comes with extended medical care and ongoing recovery is overwhelming.
