Hurricane OTIS

Dear Friends and Supporters,

As many of you know, Acapulco has a special place in my heart. My beloved Acapulco and its people are devastated from the catastrophic effects of Otis, which made landfall the night of October 24th as a Category 5 hurricane with winds of 165 mph. According to the National Hurrican Center, Otis is the strongest hurricane to make landfall in the Eastern Pacific.

This massive Category 5 storm has left a trail of destruction, impacting the more than 1 million lives who are now in dire need of our help. During the first couple of days basic services such as electricity, water and communications were unavailable. After one week and as communications start to reestablish the numbers are staggering, hundreds of thousands of homes have been destroyed, and it is estimated that 85% of all infrastructure has beed severely damaged, leaving families homeless and vulnerable.

The people of Acapulco are resilient, but they cannot rebuild their lives without our support. Now, more than ever, they need us to come together and make a difference in their lives. We have identified a couple of families like Valerie's and Camila's that their homes have been significantly Damaged or Destroyed. Funds we raise will support them to build /rebuild a safe home and get back on their feet.

We are also working with ASOCIACION GILBERTO & CONSTRUYENDO to support them get as many families as possible into an appropriate home. CONSTRUYENDO is a non-profit organization, founded in 2008, whose mission is to rebuild the lives of those who have been severely impacted by natural disasters. I am sure that with their experience and your support we will be able to provide hope and a better future to some of the families in this beautiful community.
