Together for Rebecca - A community of support as she takes on ALS

Hey, everyone. We're the Together for Rebecca team and we're reaching out on behalf of Rebecca, her family and entire support system as she moves forward to take on ALS. Many of you have asked how you can support Rebecca and her family as they navigate the catastrophic reality of her ALS diagnosis and we've set up this Go Fund Me campaign to help ease their burdens and provide additional stability as they navigate life with ALS.

About Rebecca

Rebecca is a Mother, Daughter, Wife, Sister, Aunt, Friend and Social Worker who was diagnosed with ALS in July of 2025 after developing a limp in her left leg. The diagnosis was unexpected with Rebecca having lived a healthy active lifestyle with no known history of ALS in her family. As is to be expected, Rebecca and her family are devastated by the diagnosis, though determined to take the disease head on and cherish what time they have left together.

About ALS

Properly named Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis and sometimes referred to as "Lou Gehrig's Disease", ALS is an aggressive motor neuron illness that prevents a person from being able to voluntarily contract their muscles. There is no cure, and ALS has a 100% mortality rate causing a gradual paralysis of the body, making even the simplest of activities (walking, eating, swallowing and breathing) difficult and eventually impossible. ALS typically causes death within 3 to 5 years after diagnosis with some rare slowly progressing variants affording more time, though no less horrific in outcome and impact for those affected by it.

Why Your Donation Matters

Supporting a person with ALS can be prohibitively expensive and to best support Rebecca, her family will need tens of thousands of dollars to retrofit their house for accessibility while also having to cover a variety of out-of-pocket expenses associated with Rebecca's care. Simultaneously, their income is stunted with Rebecca on disability leave and Nick having to scale back on work to better support Rebecca's care, as well as their two school age daughters, Charlie and Alice. Simply put, even with the resources made available through the Canadian healthcare system, ALS Canada, Ontario Health at Home and Rebecca's immediate family, supporting a person with ALS is financially onerous.

Where the Funds Will Go

Your donations will be used to help cover the immediate and longer-term expenses tied to home accessibility as well as out-of-pocket medical and support services and other important needs, while also supporting the continued well being of Rebecca's daughters, Charlie and Alice.

How you can help:

Donate - Every donation will go towards retrofitting their home for accessibility, out-of-pocket medical and support expenses and the continued well being of Charlie and Alice.

Share - Please share this campaign with your friends, family and networks spreading the word to others who may wish to give their support.

Vibe - Think and share your positive thoughts, affirmations and memories as it offers strength in the face of adversity.

Your generosity, love and compassion are reminders that Rebecca and her family are not alone.

Thank you for your support.

***Please note, donations will be transferred/received by Rebecca's husband, Nick Mills, on behalf of Rebecca's campaign.
