On April 14, 2019 Lucas Nicolaou sustained a (TBI) traumatic brain injury while playing at his soccer game in Pennsylvania.

Toward the end of the game, Lucas’s head impacted with another player. Lucas was relieved from the game for observation. As most athletes recover quickly, Lucas did as well, and headed back home to Long Island with his father where he would have an additional evaluation to rule out anything serious.

But on their way home, Lucas began having symptoms, nausea and feeling of numbness on the left side of his body. Andy rushed him to the nearest hospital in NJ, where Lucas had undergone life-saving emergency brain surgery to relieve pressure from a ruptured artery that was bleeding on the right side of his head.

He spent several days in the Pediatric ICU and is currently undergoing extensive occupational and physical therapy.

His mother Joanna remains in the New Jersey rehabilitation facility 24 hours a day at his side, they are expected to be there for several more weeks, and have continued therapy when he comes home.

If you know Lucas, his thoughts are with his brother Alex, his Mom and Dad, and how they will cover the cost of his medical expenses.
It’s important for a child to focus on their recovery, an important part of their rehabilitation process.

Lucas is strong, continues to fight each day and hopes to return to the sport he loves.

We would be extremely grateful if you could donate to help cover some of his medical costs, and send your positive thoughts his way. No donation is too small.

We thank you for any help you can provide and reading Lucas’s story. It’s important to protect all kids, make sure they get to have the kinds of experiences they should have through sports they love, feel safe and cared for,
provide the best medical treatment for them, and to let them know they have an even bigger team behind them for support.
