TRACE COLE THORNTON
AUGUST 12, 1988 – NOVEMBER 1, 2010
This year was my son’s 30th birthday. But he will forever be 22 in Heaven. It was eight years ago on November 1st, he and his girlfriend Rachel, and their dog Marley, were in a horrible car accident near College Station, Texas. The driver fell asleep...no one survived. My world / life changed forever that day. Never to be the same.
This past year a father I know experienced a similar situation. His son was driving, feel asleep. Was a horrible car accident, but his son survived - with a broken neck. The doctors said it was a miracle this young man was alive and NOT paralyzed. When I saw the father, he told me he had been thinking about me. This event was very similar to my son’s – driver feel asleep, horrible car accident, broken neck - however my son did not survive. He said he now better understood my never ending pain and heartache, not completely, but came very close. Close enough. Said his life will never be the same for him and his family.... I truly appreciated him saying this to me, and really glad his son is going to be okay.
So, this year I would like to thank those, who over the years, since 2010, have been there to help me. I may look the same, sometimes act the same, but I am not the same person I was on October 31st, 2010. I struggle every day, holidays especially, but God has put some Angels here on earth to help me – friends, family and friends who are family. I appreciate the tolerance for my sadness, random hugs, and unconditional love. Some of these friends and family have been in my life a long time, others more recently. Some have come, and some have gone. But I still appreciate the time spent. Thank you.
However, the 2 page ads I buy each year for the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo, Souvenir Program, are not about me. It’s about my son, so he will never be forgotten. Once again, I would appreciate if you would write on Trace’s page. And, if you would like to make a donation to the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo, that is great! But not required. Deadline is Sunday, November 18th, 2018.
I love you Trace, miss you every day. You and Rachel will forever be young and in my heart... Love, Mom
(The picture of me and my son was taken September 2010, at the funeral of my brother: Edward Martin Peterson. March 1955 – September 2010)
