I am Alessandro Preda, and I am thrilled and honored to have been chosen as a torchbearer for the upcoming Paris 2024 Olympics. My selection provides me with the opportunity to do something significantly useful through this symbolic role of carrying the Olympic flame. I commit to representing one of the three energies of the Olympic relay: the Collective Energy, the strength shown daily by those working to build a more inclusive, sustainable, and just society, with a focus on solidarity.

I have decided to dedicate myself to a fundraising campaign for Amref Health Africa ONLUS, all togheter we've funded a well for 500 people, but now we have a greater goal: realize a rainwater harvesting system for Mjanaheri school, impacting the lives of 1,500 kids.

UPDATE:

On 11 June the first goal - to provide access to clean water for 500 people in the village of Kisiwani, Kenya, by constructing a well - has been reached.

A new goal has been set up for catalyzing this amazing Collective Energy: raise funds to realize a rainwater harvesting distribution system that will provide safe and clean water for the school of Mjanaheri, impacting the lives of 1,500 kids.

This simple but essential structure can make a significant difference in the daily lives of many. I am taking the first step toward this goal, but I need the support of all of you to achieve it.

Water is Life

Water is an essential and invaluable resource. It is fundamental for hygiene, health, economy, and food production. The United Nations recognizes potable water as a fundamental human right.

However, today, over 1 billion people worldwide do not have direct access to clean drinking water.

More than 400 million of these people live in Africa, where the disparities between rural and urban areas are enormous.

In Kilifi County, Kenya, over 65% of the territory suffers from water scarcity. The average walking distance to the nearest water point is 3,5 km, a journey that takes hours, often borne by women and children.

Amref's Commitment in Kenya

Since 1998, Amref has been working in Kilifi County to ensure access to clean water sources and improve community health, also increasing local communities’ resilience to climate change. Water is the thread that runs through all the organization's work in this area of Kenya. Amref is the largest African health organization. Since 1957, it has been working to ensure health for the most vulnerable communities. Clean water is one of the key elements to ensure access to health.

How You Can Help Us

Thanks to your contribution, we will be able to build a well in the village of Kisiwani, in Kenya, allowing over 500 people to have access to a clean and safe water source.

The well is the heart of community life: it is so important that every single new well has its own name. The one we are going to build with your help, will be called Kwa Boya and it will have an impact of many people lives

UPDATE:

Kwa Boya has been funded, now we have a new goal!

We want to realize a rainwater harvesting distribution system that will provide safe and clean water for the school of Mjanaheri, impacting the lives of 1,500 kids.

Rainwater will be collected from roof and stored in a large tank.

From this tank the water will be clorinate and distributed within the school and will provide water for personal hygiene, cooking and cultivating a small vegetable garden.
