Recovery from Major Robbery

Dear family and friends,
I created this GoFundMe page to expose a part of my life that I've done very well in covering up over the past seven years. The tough exterior I've put up served as a wall of sort, a wall that divided my true self from my relationships.
After many moments of hesitation, doubt, and fear, I am finally ready to shatter the walls and share my story with you.
In October 2012, my mother visited her local bank in Koreatown, Los Angeles to withdraw her savings so that she could transfer it to a new bank account she created. My mother was unaware of online banking and transfer services and she thought the easiest way would be to physically withdraw cash from her bank and transfer the money that way.
Upon finishing her transaction and collecting her suitcase of $30,000 in cash to her car, she started her car and left the parking lot. Upon exiting the lot, she was immediately ambushed by a couple of unidentifiable men with guns, who threatened to take her life if she did not fork over the cash. Speechless and defenseless, my mother had no choice but to do so, and within 2 minutes, the course of her and my life changed instantly. The Los Angeles Police Department could not help as the men were unidentifiable. The case was dropped shortly, but the pain and trauma from that incident forever remains etched in our hearts.
Fast forward to seven years later, and the trauma of that incident still affects my mother, as she sometimes wakes up screaming in the middle of the night. The incident took a toll on my future opportunities as well, as it prevented me from fulfilling my childhood dream of studying abroad, and also forced me to take care of unexpected expenses for my mother for the past seven years, impeding my ability to save and instead create tons of debt. The debt has impounded over the years, and I am now in a situation that is unsustainable.
The money received from this GoFundMe will be used to help pay off the debt that has been incurred from my mother over the years. It has taken me a great deal of courage to share this story to the public, and I hope that the universe can help to bring back what was stolen so cruelly from us.
If you are a close friend of mine and reading this, I wish I could have shared this with you sooner. I am learning as I grow into true adulthood that vulnerability is not a sign of weakness, but a sign of strength. I am ready to understand the value of asking for help when needed, and I hope that you may support this page in any capacity.
Thank you for reading; I am thankful to have you in my life.
With love,
Jon
