My sister Jillian, at only 30 years old was diagnosed with stage 2 Breast Cancer this year. This comes on the heels of our mother being diagnosed for the fourth time in the last 20 years.
In 2016, my mom, myself, Jillian and our sister, Jocelyn were all tested for the BRCA mutation. Our mother was positive which was no surprise considering it is the 4th time she is battling this disease...stage 4 metastatic breast cancer with spread. She will spend the rest of her life on chemotherapy. Jocelyn and I were negative, Jillian positive for the mutation. In April of 2018 she found a lump and was diagnosed with breast cancer at only 30 years old.
Jillian has the same fighting spirit as our mom, and we watched her handle this with maturity beyond her years. She asks for nothing, and has continued to work despite weekly chemotherapy appointments, and fertility treatments because the chemo can affect her ability to have children in the future. Cancer is life altering, and devastating.
Jillian’s next course of treatment will be a major surgery. She’s will have to be off of work for approximately 2 months and with limited short term disability, she will have to recover and live on a fraction of her pay. With the added burden of medication copays, surgery copays, to her living costs, we are trying to raise some money to take that stress away for her. Please consider a donation to Jillian’s Breast Cancer recovery...I have no doubt she will take this experience and continue to use it as an advocate for Breast Cancer Awareness. If you can’t donate, please say a prayer for our mom and little sister. Thank you.
