A Mighty Cause for Mike
Donation protected
We all know Mike Mclaughlin as the life of the party, especially on the golf course. He’s a loving father and a wonderful friend. Mike is well known and loved by many at Grunions and in the South Bay. In August, Mike was diagnosed with OCULAR MELANOMA, which is an extremely rare form of eye cancer that forms in the pigmented layers under the retina. He recently underwent eye surgery/bracytheraphy treatment with Dr. Tara McCannel, M.D., Ph.D. Dr. McCannel is the Director of the Ophthalmic Oncology Center at the UCLA Stein Eye Institute. One week after the eye surgery, doctors did a scan of his entire body to see if the cancer had spread elsewhere. They discovered he has high grade PROSTATE CANCER, but thankfully it has not spread. The Ocular Melanoma and Prostate Cancer are unrelated. However, Mike needs to have surgery to remove the prostate before it spreads. After that, he may need radiation therapy or hormone therapy. We won't know until after the surgery. Due to limited health coverage, the total out-of-pocket cost is nearly $85,000 just in surgery costs. This doesn’t include other medical costs as well as other expenses. Many have kindly asked how they can help Mike. So, we started this page to have a place where people can donate what they can to help out Mike. Any amount you can contribute is greatly appreciated. Thank you!
