The Galaxy Coffee Quiet Generator Fund

Hi, we’re The Galaxy Coffee, the first queer-owned coffee truck in Columbus, Ohio!

We’re raising $9,000 to replace our very loud generator with quieter (and more efficient) inverter generators, so that our customers and community can enjoy a more peaceful environment.

We want to give everyone the best experience possible – from serving delicious drinks and pastries, to providing an atmosphere that feels relaxed, welcoming and friendly.

But unlike most food trucks with equipment that runs on propane (which is silent), our espresso machine and other coffee equipment all run on (a lot of) electricity, which is currently supplied by our powerful, very loud generator. It means we often have to yell, or ask our customers to yell, in order to hear each other over the sound of the generator. That level of noise is unfortunately unsustainable – for our customers, for ourselves, and for our whole community.

We’ve been working hard behind the scenes to try to fix this problem for a while now, including:

  • Hiring three separate contractors to build three separate generator boxes to dampen the sound of the generator (none have succeeded long-term)
  • Consulting with multiple food truck owners and RV owners about their generator experiences and solutions
  • Getting quotes and cost estimates from multiple solar panel/lithium battery companies (the cheapest was $24,000 + electrician fees and installation fees)
  • Testing our equipment load on various generators to compare how they sound

After weighing all our options, we decided to fundraise money to buy two Honda Ultra Quiet Inverter Generators. This makes the most sense for our overall timeline, budget, and needs, and will help reduce our noise level by up to 75%, and our emissions by about a third.

Here is the breakdown of what we’ll need:

  • Honda 7000-Watt Ultra Quiet Inverter Generator + tax ($5,373.93)
  • Honda 3000-Watt Ultra Quiet Inverter Generator + tax ($2,739.93)
  • Contractor to install generators on the back of the truck (estimated $200)
  • Electrician to split breakers between two generators, and install a second generator outlet (estimated $500)
  • Fees associated with processing credit cards and other transactions for donations (from GoFundMe, Square, and PayPal) (estimated $250)

TOTAL: $9,063.86

We’re taking donations through this GoFundMe, as well as our website (, and in-person at our truck. We’ll keep this money tracker updated on GoFundMe with all sources of donations, so that you can follow along with how close we are to our goal. And we’ll post on our social media when we hit milestones along the way.

Thank you so, so much to everyone who donates! You are directly helping us bring a quieter, more enjoyable atmosphere to our customers, our neighbors, and our whole community. And you’re helping us grow as a business when we need it most.

We bring everything we have to our little coffee truck, and we have a lot of heart, but the real reason we’ve made it this far is because of all of you. Thank you ❤️
