Jayden's & Ayla's Medical Expenses

Dear Facebook friends.  We have a situation with one of our neighbors who needs your prayers/good thoughts and financial assistance if you’re able.

Cindy Roush moved to Dos Vientos last year from Colorado with her 2 children, Jayden & Ayla.  If you have kids that go to Sycamore Canyon School than you might have seen them around.   Both kids are in wheelchairs due to being born with spinal bifida.  Because of their condition both kids have had to undergo over a dozen surgeries each to help with their condition.

Over spring break Cindy took Jayden back to Colorado for yet another surgery.  A few days after returning from Colorado Jayden woke up one morning with a 106 fever.  Cindy rushed him to Children’s Hospital in Los Angeles to find out the issue.  Jayden had developed a severe infection from the surgery and needed immediate attention to clear out the infection and dead tissue.  Unfortunately, the heavy antibiotics didn’t immediately work and Jayden has had to undergo 4 additional surgeries.  The most recent one being on Monday 5/8.  I was told today (5/11), that Jayden has improved and will undergo one additional surgery tomorrow to, in Cindy’s words, “put him back together.”

As if this wasn’t enough, I received a text from Cindy on Tuesday (5/9) informing me that Ayla woke up Monday morning with severe abdominal pain.  It was discovered that scar tissue from a previous surgery was cutting off blood supply to about 1/3 of her small intestines.  Immediate emergency surgery was performed attempting to save the effected intestines and restore blood flow.  Unfortunately, the surgery was unsuccessful and today (5/11), Ayla had to undergo an additional surgery to remove the impacted intestines.  She will remain in drug induced coma for the next week while she heals.  Fortunately, I’m told the prognosis for recovery is good.

Cindy and both kids are currently staying at Children’s Hospital Los Angeles while they recover. As you can imagine the medical bills are going to be astronomical.  Even with insurance there is still a hefty deductible they will have to pay.

Inspired by many people within our community who are asking how they can help, we have started this GoFundMe page in an attempt to help mitigate the medical costs Cindy is going to have to endure.

Please, if you are able, consider donating to help Cindy, Jayden, and Ayla.  Any amount will help and I know will be greatly appreciated.  If you are unable to donate please pass along this link to your family and friends.  The more people that can be reached the better.

If you would like to send cards, flowers, etc to them at CHLA, the kids last name is Mikes.
