I’ve watched my mother care for others my entire life. She cared for my older sister who suffered from the effects of a childhood autoimmune disease. She took care of my niece when my sister needed help. I watched her run errands for and take care of my grandmother. I paid close attention to their relationship/friendship because I knew that one day I would be in that role watching over her. There was a dark time in my life that I became overwhelmed with daily panic attacks. It was hard for me to function in the life I was creating for myself. She stayed with me because I needed her. She never once yelled at me or made fun of my irrational fears. Instead she sat with me, rode in the car with me, answered the phone when I needed to reach out to someone. She helped me get back on my feet. For all of those reasons I would never dream of abandoning this amazing caregiver when she needs help the most.

So here we are today heading into the third month of bad days, good days, through three hospital stays, three different medical finds and an emergency surgery. We’ve now got physical therapy and occupational therapy coming in twice a week for another month or so depending on how much she improves. She’s getting stronger but still not able to care for herself the way she did before her hospital stays. She found out that her insurance plan does not cover any kind of in home health care like she needs so I’m here making sure she’s good and stays safe. I’ve promised her that I will be here with her as long as she needs, but it’s not as easy as it should be. As many folks are discovering during these trying times in their own lives we were not prepared for an emergency this big. Our biggest stressor has been money. I have not been able to fully work since August. I set up a gofundme when we didn’t know how long all of this would last. I am so incredibly grateful for all the donations we received from friends, family, and also friends of friends! I was able to take care of my mom at the most critical times. I was able to take care of basic thing like getting groceries, paying bills, getting items needed for her return home and I was able to get my insulin. I was worried I wouldn’t be able to pay for it and that feeling is so scary.

Month three is now rolling through and it’s time to take care of it all again with some additional costs this time. So I’m here again asking my community for some assistance if you can. We are eternally grateful for all you’ve done so far. If you feel comfortable sharing this we would appreciate it. We need all the help we can get. Thanks friends.
