Help Little Charlie

Sweet Charlie, son of Haley and Bradley Garlock, was born at 35 weeks on November 14th premature but healthy. 10 short days after he was born, they noticed Charlie was having apneic episodes. They immediately took Charlie into the ER at Utah Valley Hospital where he was admitted to the PICU and found he had contracted RSV. After a long week at Utah Valley, the medical staff made the decision to have Charlie transferred to Primary Children’s Hospital due to his worsening condition. Within the first week of being at primary children’s his health kept declining so much so that he needed to be put on a double bypass life support machine (ECMO) to give his lungs a break. A few hours after being placed on ECMO, Charlie suffered a stroke to the left side of his brain. After a week of intense monitoring and adjustments on the ECMO machine he had an emergency de-cannulation from ECMO due to clotting. After many surgeries and almost every machine the hospital has to offer for sick babies, Charlie currently has a G-tube inserted for feeding as well as a tracheotomy hooked up to a life support ventilator. Though Charlie has had a rough start to life, we have also seen an abundance of miracles over the course of these 8 weeks in the PICU. Haley and Brad are hopeful that Charlie will recover and come out on top. Unfortunately, with unexpected medical events, comes surprise expenses even with insurance coverage.
