68km for Lindsey and Daisy
Hi my name is Claire and I'm doing a joint fundraiser for Lindsey and Daisy.
Many of you will already know of the devastating news about Daisy. She was born with ill health and had her first major operation when she was only two days old. She fought through several major operations during the first 18 months of her life and kept on smiling throughout it all.
She was a little warrior and things were looking up until during February this year, when the dreadful news that she had been diagnosed with an aggressive leukaemia shocked us all. She then spent most of her life for almost six months living in hospital with her parents, my dear brother and sister-in-law Lance and Toni. Daisy underwent gruelling chemotherapy and then a bone marrow transplant, battling though it all so bravely. Amazingly she beat the cancer, but it had all been too much for her and she sadly passed away peacefully in her sleep on the 26th July.
We are all heartbroken over the tragic loss of Daisy and while there is nothing we can do to bring her back we are showing our support and raising money to help towards her funeral costs and memorial. Our good friend Lyndsey Webster kindly set up this fundraiser in the first instance and I'll be donating half of the money that I raise through this GoFundme to the total of hers. I know many of you have already made donations and we're all extremely grateful.
Whilst this was all happening we got the devastating news of my sister Lindsey being diagnosed with breast cancer in June this year. Fortunately it was noticed during a routine mammogram – a reminder to never ever delay appointments – get them booked in!
She has already undergone a lumpectomy last month, which thankfully went as well as could be expected and she is now due to start chemotherapy next month – every 3 weeks for the next few months. She will then have a break before having radiotherapy treatment every weekday for three weeks.
Those who know Lindsey know how tough she is and we know she will get through this. It's going to be a tough time so I've decided to also show my support by donating half of the money raised through this fundraiser to whatever cause she chooses. When I asked her about it she said she wished to donate the money to Breast Cancer Research, although if she wants to use the money to book a holiday for something to look forward to once she's finished her chemo and radiotherapy I won't begrudge that and I'm sure nobody else will do either. I'll leave that completely up to her to decide what's right for her when the time comes.
So what exactly will I be doing? Starting with this coming Sunday 29th August, I will be walking a Marathon with friends and family in the event set up by Lyndsey Webster for Daisy – beginning at the Regal Moon in Rochdale and then continuing on to Hebden Bridge and then back again – a total of 26.2 miles.
On October 3rd, I'll then be running the Rochdale Half Marathon, which I've been training hard for over the last couple of months! It's something that I'd never dreamed I could be capable of and it is going to be a real test for me. Finally I'll be taking part in the Pretty Muddy 5k obstacle course at Heaton Park on the 16th October. A total of 68km or 42 miles if you prefer!
I'm not usually one to ask for donations, but this year has been truly dreadful for all of my family and friends and I want to show my support not just for Daisy and Lindsey but to anyone who has been affected by Cancer which is unfortunately going to be more and more of us.
Any donation no matter how small will be much appreciated, as will just showing your support if you don't wish to donate money or have already donated to Lyndsey's page.
Thanks for reading if you have got this far.
Much love and thanks xx
