Helping Jacob Battle ADHD

Hi everyone, I am Jacob's mom and am humbly asking you for your help, support and understanding. Our lives, just like so many others have been, were instantly changed with the birth of our first born. However, back then we had no idea of the very bumpy road that was laid ahead of us. Jacob was officially diagnosed with ADHD shortly after his fourth birthday. Although, this was an early diagnosis by medical standards, I think that I always knew in my heart that he was different. Since then, I have spent countless hours educating myself on this disorder and have dedicated myself to Jacob's ultimate success. Jacob falls under the statistical norms and suffers from both aspects of the disorder, attention deficit and hyperactivity. "Boys are nearly three times more likely to be diagnosed with ADHD. 75% of Oppositional Defiant Disorder patients have a confirmed ADHD diagnosis with symptoms manifesting by age 14. 40% of children who have ADHD have at least one parent who has ADHD." However, what is not widely known about ADHD is the broad spectrum of other symptoms relating to it. Jacob also suffers from oppositional defiant disorder, insomnia, anxiety, low self-esteem, facial tics, anorexia, excoriation and some sensory issues. We have essentially traveled down every ADHD treatment avenue at this point. Jacob has been on nootropics, alpha-2 adrenergic agonists, and stimulates for almost half of his life in conjunction with his specialist's care and lab work ups every 90 days. He receives behavioral therapy through his school and is enrolled in a long-term 504 plan to help accommodate him. Despite his awesome support team's best efforts, he is not thriving and we feel as though we have not made much headway. He is still below level in his academics (with the gap widening every quarter). Our home life is still strained and the only changes we see are the negative impacts of failure on this little guy's shoulders. We feel like we have exhausted practically every resource made available to us until we learned about neurotherapy (EEG biofeedback) last year. Since then, I have done my research and we are convinced that this should be our next step in the process of helping Jacob. Unfortunately, insurance provides no coverage and payment plans are not excepted. The first appointment ($250) consists of a two hour patient exam and family interview. The second appointment ($1,000) is a brain mapping session, result report assessment and treatment plan follow up. Treatment plans are based on the diagnosis, typically require 20-30 treatment sessions and cost $150 per session.
