You never imagine in your life that a doctor would tell you that you have cancer, but that's what happened to David and I.
My name is Denise and I have been with David for over 20 years. In February 2013 he lost his job, and 5 weeks later we were told that he had Stage 4 Metastatic Colon Cancer and he did not have any health insurance. The hospital arranged for him to have Medi-Cal but because of the program that he qualified for, it left us owing the Cancer Center where he receives treatment with a bill of $6,000 a month. Thankfully they agreed to a payment plan so that he could receive treatment for his cancer.
Now after 8 months of chemotherapy he is finally ready for surgery To remove large sections of his liver and colon. He now has PPO insurance that has an Out of Pocket amount of $7,000. The hospital told us that in one month (February 2014) when he goes in for his surgery we will need to pay them $3,000 and then they will make arrangements for the remaining $4,000 (another payment arrangement, great). We survive on Social Security and State Disability and it's not possible for us to have that amount of money in such a short time.
This surgery gives David the best chance for more years with those that he loves and that love him. If we raise more than the $3,000 that the hospital wants then it will go towards the remaining amount that we owe to City of Hope Cancer Center.
We are praying that there are people out there that are willing to help us with these funds for these overwhelming medical expenses. Any amount would be so appreciated and will give David the chance to see his granddaughter graduate from college in a few years.
We thank you in advance....<3
