Saving Spidey

Hi, I am Paige Wolfe. I am 19 and live in central Pennsylvania.  I have a difficult story to share which is the reason for me needing to start this funding request.

I woke up this morning just like every other day on the farm.  I fed the horses and started to turn them out, expecting no issues.  I took my horse, Spidey, to his pasture and he trotted away and rolled just as usual.  Thirty seconds later I heard a large pop of a fence board.  I turned around to see him trying to stand and three legged.  I raced back to the pasture and I saw his leg/chest impaled with a fence board.  I ran to him to stop him from panicking.  My mom and dad were right behind me.  We all stood there holding him and trying to stop the bleeding as much as we could.  We used make shift tourniquets and towels to try and slow the loss of blood.  As we tried to hold him up, we all thought this was the end.

Thankfully, the vet arrived about 20 minutes after the incident.  We were able to keep him calm and our vet was able to remove the fence board (sword).  Quickly, we packed it full of gauze to stop the bleeding as much as we could.  Somehow, we managed to get him back to the barn.   As he stood there continuing to bleed, we knew we had to take him for emergency care as fast as possible.   We bandaged the leg/chest  extremely secure for travel in hopes he would make the trip.

At least now, we thought he might have a chance to survive.  Due to the current situation of corona virus, our vet had to make special call to University of Pennsylvania, New Bolton Center to get him admitted since they are closed to non life threatening injuries.    He survived the one hour and thirty minute drive.  Unfortunately, we were unable to stay with him or even get out of our vehicle.

He is currently receiving the best care but as of our last notification they are trying to stop the bleeding.   This is going to be very expensive but not impossible.  Spidey is my super pony and made the rider I am today.   I need to save him.  He means everything to my family.  He saved my mom from breast cancer seven years ago.  He got slightly stuck in a hose and panicked.  He ran to my mom and knocked her over, which made her go to the doctor since she was bruised on her left side.  When they checked her all over, they discovered she had breast cancer.   We always credit him with saving my mom's life, he is our White Knight!  He is is only 12 years old and deserves to live his life out with our family.

We are  trying to raise the funds to pay for some of his expenses at New Bolton Center and aftercare.    If anyone could contribute, we would be eternally grateful,  my heart is breaking.
