Tevin Cates passed away in his sleep on October 7, 2019 at the age of 23. He suffered from a previously undiagnosed heart condition which led to an aortic dissection.
Since the age of 4, Tevin was passionate about theatre. At the time of his passing, he was teaching at two local theatres, performing at three local theatres, and still employed in entertainment at Walt Disney World where he danced in parades and hung out with characters like Goofy and Woody.
In addition to theatre, Tevin was an escape room enthusiast. He played over 250 escape rooms from coast to coast. He helped design a few rooms for friends, and he planned to open his own escape room with his best friend, Hunter Martin. They had named their dream escape room: Escape Bros.
More than his passion for theatre and escape rooms, Tevin was known for his kind heart. Stories are constantly being shared about how Tevin was such a dedicated friend and confidant. He loved his family and friends very deeply- and his love continues to resonate through us all. Some of his students have shared that when they now step on the stage, they are going to always "Go full out for Mr. Tevin!"
Tevin’s untimely death has served as a stark reminder of how fleeting life is, and how we should all embrace our family and friends and pursue our dreams.
With that in mind, the funds collected here will be used to create scholarships for Tevin’s favorite local theatres for summer camps so other children can have the opportunity to pursue their dreams through their love of musical theatre.
