In early November, my dad, Mark Amodei, was in a serious ATV accident that left him in the trauma ICU with extensive, life-threatening injuries. He has 9 broken ribs and a broken clavicle, and the damage to his body has been severe and complicated.

A few days after being careflighted to the hospital, he had to be intubated as his breathing worsened. Once he was strong enough, he received a tracheotomy to support his breathing long-term. He remains in critical condition, dependent on a breathing machine, and the medical team is still working to understand why his lungs remain so weak.

On top of this, he has been on heavy dialysis due to kidney failure, adding another layer of complexity and uncertainty to his recovery. Every day is a fight, and every small step forward means everything to us.

His care has been incredibly attentive and precise — so much so that he is being transferred to Redding via air ambulance for long-term rehabilitation. Even with this transition, he remains in critical condition, and the road ahead is long and unpredictable.

I’ve been by his side almost every day since the accident. My daughters — his granddaughters — call him “Papa,” and he means the world to them. Getting him healthy enough to come home to us is our only goal.
