Update: Funds will now go to support Huey’s son Brayden and my mom (his spouse of 20 years) in this difficult time. They have fallen very behind on bills as they were Huey’s full time caregivers. They will also help pay for a Celebration of Life which he deserves to have. The last thing anyone needs when they’re grieving is to worry about the financial hardship that’s ahead.

Hi, my name is Katie. My step-dad, Huey, came into my life when I was only 2 1/2 years old and he’s raised me as his own since.
Anyone who knows Huey knows that he would give you the shirt off his back.
Since he was 16, he spent his life as a trucker/car hauler. He loved transporting cars from Maine to Florida during snowbird season.
Unfortunately, he was diagnosed with cancer in June 2021, at the time it was diagnosed as stage 2 oropharyngeal squamous cell cancer. In February 2022, it metastasized to both his hilar and mediastinal lymph nodes, and that brought it to stage 4. In December 2022, we found out that the cancer had spread through his bones. The most recent PET scan done last week was not a good prognosis. The cancer has now metastasized more through his lungs, right kidney, bowel, and more of his bones. The cancer has been very aggressive and hasn’t been responding to any treatment methods that his oncologist has recommended thus far.
All of this news has obviously been devastating to our family. I had my first child in August 2022 and the heartbreaking realization is setting in that my son will not be able to experience the grandfather/grandson bond that all boys should experience and Huey will never be able to walk me down the aisle as I always pictured.
We’re praying for a miracle to happen at this point. Huey agreed to try one more treatment option that will begin soon and we’re trying our hardest to remain positive and hopeful that it will work. If it doesn’t work then he has already said that he will make the decision to end treatment and live the rest of his life the best he can.
As you can imagine, Huey has been in agonizing pain daily. His bones are very frail and most days he’s unable to even get out of bed. My mom has basically become his full-time caregiver and hasn’t really been able to leave his side much. They’re struggling to pay their expenses between groceries, gas, dog food, and other utilities. Huey is very prideful and he doesn’t like asking anyone for anything, but he is seriously debating going back to work just to make ends meet. I don’t think he should have to work through agonizing pain and worry about breaking a bone just by moving the wrong way. I want him just to be able to live a relaxing, stress-free life for the remainder of time that he has left in this world. He feels like he’s carrying the weight of the world on his shoulders and they can’t catch a break. Any donations will help, thank you.
