Nathaniel’s Christmas Journey
Hi, my name is Nicole Dye and my son Nathaniel’s life was forever changed on Christmas day in 2018. Christmas will always be a day I celebrate the birthday of my Lord Jesus Christ and the day I celebrate the life of my son Nathaniel.
Nathaniel was shot on December 25, 2018, for a $35 debt he was unaware friends owed. We all make choices in life and sometimes, choosing to do the right thing can go very wrong. In this case, Nathaniel was helping his friends find shelter and unknowingly ended up being harassed for an insignificant $35 debt. This $35 debt left him paralyzed, with doctor’s labeling him a complete quadriplegic.
Nathaniel was encountered outside a neighborhood store and he was told to either tell his friends to come outside or pay their debt of $35. He replied, “I won’t be doing either of those things”. The retort back was “you can’t walk these streets if I don’t get my money”. Before entering the store, Nathaniel replied, “ten toes down, I will continue to walk around”.
A barrage of gunfire assaulted Nathaniel as he exited the store. A single bullet pierced his spinal cord resulting in paralysis from the shoulders down and the need for a ventilator.
I’m not sure I would have had his courage, however, as his mother, I must admit I admire his decision to give his friends peace on Christmas Day.
It has been a very long 2 and a half months sitting at Nathaniel’s side praying now he is finally ready to come home. However, home is not quite ready for Nathaniel, as we need the following:
• Wheelchair van to drive to and from doctor visits.
• Generator to support his ventilator dependency
• E-Stem electronic stimulator physical rehab
• Wheelchair Ramp
• Modifications to the home doors and windows (interior/exterior)
• Voice controlled devices for independence to operate the television, computer, ect..
That is where you come in, I need your help to make the way for my baby to come home. I estimate that it will take $100,000 to bring my son home. Thank you for your help to get my son home.
