#LoganStrong

Let me introduce you to Logan Thomas Varnell. He is a 12 year old boy who loves Football. He was a Lineman for Harrison this year and has played since he was 5 years old. Logan is full of life and is a funny boy. You can usually find him playing with his friends, playing sports or video games and he LOVES big. He is the sweetest most kind hearted kid you will ever meet.On September 1st he went helmet to helmet at a football practice with another player. For the next week Logan complained about severe headaches and his eyes bothering him. On September 22nd Logan had an MRI and the doctors cleared him of a concussion, but they found that he is suffering from a disease called Chiari Malformation 1. Chiari malformation is a condition which brain tissue extends into your spinal cord & occurs when part of your skull is small or misshapen, pressing your brain and forcing it downwards. Chiari is uncommon therefor not easily diagnosed. Symptoms include vision problems, speech problems, neck issues, poor fine motor skills, problems with balance, difficulty swallowing followed by choking and vomiting, which Logan is experiencing.Because of this it is said that Logan will never be able to play football or any other contact sport again. But we know how big God is and we know He works miracles in big ways! So we are claiming in Jesus name that number 20 will step out on that field again! #LoganStrongWe ask first of all for your continued prayers going forward. Logan & his family are beyond devastated. We also are asking for help financially for this family. This family has always put others way before themselves. They always go out of their way to extend their home to everyone. I think it is due time for us to give back to them. Anything will help!!! Please be praying specifically for the doctor appointment this week. His physician is the children’s doctors and he will be seeing Dr. Bohem at UT Erlanger Neurosurgery.Thank you so much!

UPDATE:

Logan will have surgery 11/12/18
He is home bound starting now.
Dr. Boehm Jr. will complete the surgery on that day. He will remove a piece of bone in the back of his skull, and make 2 cuts on the spine and make room. Logan will spend the night in ICU after the surgery to regulate his pain. Then be moved to a regular room for 2 more days. Then 4-8 week recovery, NO RESTRICTIONS IF EVERYTHING GOES WELL AFTER 6 months!!
