Michael Roman is one of our beloved brothers at the Illinois Psi Chapter of Phi Kappa Theta at Northern Illinois University. He originally joined Phi Kappa Theta at the chapter at Eastern Illinois University in the Fall of 2022. After being originally diagnosed with brain cancer for the first time in 2023, he had to withdraw from school for his health and undergo his first brain surgery. He then transferred to NIU to be closer to home, where we welcomed him in with open arms in 2024, where tumor growth started to take place again, leading to Michael withdrawing from classes in Fall 2024 once again. After another successful surgery, Michael and our chapter were hoping for the best toward another return here for the Fall 2025 semester.
This summer, tragedy struck when it was learned that more tumor growth was shown progressing towards grade 4 Cancer in his brain, leaving Michael visually impaired. We are hoping that the Greek community at NIU, along with the NIU community as a whole, can rally around and help one of our own with the money needed for new treatments, as former treatments are no longer working in slowing down the tumor growth.
Michael is a great person with a big heart who has had his college experience stripped away from him.
