My name is Levy Montenegro Reyes and I truly appreciate you taking a moment to read my story.

My family and I have been blindsided by the loss of my employment. This all happened during the time I was off work for workman's comp and disability.

On May 28,2024, I went to work like normal and by the end of the day my back was hurting. I thought it was normal exhaustion as it was a heavy work day. I went home relaxed, and then went to sleep. The next morning around 330 am I woke up in extreme severe pain that made it even hard to breathe. I woke up my wife and she took me to the ER.

Just walking, let alone any movement was the feeling like I had been shot in my spine. Once the ER gave us the verdict of what was wrong, my wife called the HR directly and was stated to call MetLife right then to start his disability so I wouldnt lose my job. It was informed to the HR that it was a a work related incident. The imaging done on May 29,2024 showed a compressed fracture!

HR did not start any workman's comp at this time.

We tried to go to a spine doctor but they refused as this was a work related incident, so I had to call my employer again and then at that time they set up workman's comp.

I have been to their doctor and the first meeting he said I was fine and could go back to work. My wife was persistent and stating how can you let him work when he can't even do anything for more than 30 minutes at a time, without being in severe pain?

The doctor then started to listen and requested an MRI after we had talked to him.

Once the MRI was done the results showed more that was wrong with my spine! The same doctor again pushed it off as nothing. My wife my savior stepped up and went over the results and stated to the doctor what each issue was and how it could have happened. My wife who is no doctor knew something was wrong. The doctor finally said oh ok...yeah this is a work related incident and we need to send to Ortho.

We have tried to reach out to the adjuster on numerous occasions and with no luck I am still sitting for a month since the request was put in, with no response.

MetLife disability called and approved his disability and to contact his employer for payment. We spoke with the employer and they came back stated yes it was approved but there will be no lost wages as they fired me as of May 29,2024 for a policy violation. How is this a policy violation?

I reported the injury the moment I found to what was wrong. My job has come back to me saying cause I didn't tell them that day my back was hurting and the next day I was seen in the ER that it is a violation. I have been off work since May 29, 2024 with no income. So with everything that's gone on I also found out I have the beginning stage of Colon Cancer. I was having issues with my stomach hurting so much. I went to see the gastroenterologist and they stated I have focal intestinal metaplasia. which means my stomach lining is no longer protecting me. What this means I now have precancerous cells in my stomach, nothing is protecting my stomach from viruses, heartburn and so much more. With this condition I also can no longer take any anti acid medication. So heartburn is a daily for me. I went into have an endoscopy and colonoscopy done.

They determined I have something wrong with my esophagus, my stomach and found the cancer in my colon. The cancer was in 2 spots, the doctor was able to remove all of it, thank God for helping me thru that.

So now I have a lawyer to help us thru this process as I have no wages coming in to help my family, bills, groceries and so much more. My wife is the only one working right now and she away from home a lot with her hours. She has been the rock I needed during this time. I feel so helpless I can't help provide like a man should.

At this time we are asking help. Any money donated will be used for normal bills, medical, grocery and much more to help relieve the burden not just on me but also my wife.
