Bringing Me Back To Life

Dear Supporters,

I'm Shawaun, and I'm contacting you from a place of humility and a resilient past. I never would have thought that life would test me in the ways that it has, but my love for my children has never wavered.

There are obstacles to overcome every day for a single mother dealing with rheumatoid arthritis and lupus. The greatest challenge, though, was learning that I had a rare stage 4 head and neck cancer 3 years ago. Even though I was wounded in the struggle, I was nevertheless victorious, and now cancer-free!

We set out for Houston in search of a new beginning and a fresh start, myself and my three kids with me, one of whom has special needs. I had no idea that there would be challenges along the way to put my will and fortitude to the test.

It has been a never-ending uphill battle to find a job while my health is compromised. We are facing financial instability due to the accumulation of bills. My children's needs must take precedence above my pride, even though it can act as a barrier at times.

We only need a helping hand to keep us afloat, nothing more.

$1250 in rent, three months overdue(pending eviction)—ensuring a place to live and a roof over our heads.

$725 for utilities (gas, electric, and water) offering coziness and support amid trying circumstances.

$400 for groceries—feeding love and hope into our bodies and spirits.

$200 for transportation—to and from necessary errands and doctor's visits.

Phone: $960 (fee for reconnection; lines are disconnected for nonpayment) Maintaining ties to one another and the outside world.

Internet: $30, providing access to knowledge and amusement.

$150–$200 is necessary for the little luxuries that add character to our home.

We would be so grateful for your help, no matter how little it may be. It would be the hope that keeps us from feeling alone on this journey, the peace of knowing we are warm on the coldest of nights, and the beacon of light that illuminates our route.
