This fundraiser is to assist the six plaintiffs of this proposed class action suit with ongoing legal fees as this case moves through the justice system.
The six plaintiffs are a group of current and former female municipal police officers in B.C. seeking accountability and systemic changes as it relates to experiences of harassment, sexual violence and gender-based discrimination (that in some cases manifested to physical and sexual assaults, and retaliatory abuse), within the course of their employment with their respective police departments.
This case seeks to hold accountable the Crown, the Attorney General of BC, the BC Minister of Public Safety, all B.C. municipalities who employ municipal police forces, and the police departments operating in these municipalities; and calls on these government bodies and municipalities to support efforts to address gendered violence in police culture in B.C.
“This class action is about female municipal police officers in British Columbia coming together as a united voice and demanding accountability for the decades of harm these toxic and traumatizing workplaces and systems have caused to female municipal police officers in this province. This is about sounding the alarm for the government and municipalities to end systemic violence against female police officers.” – Cary Ryan, former police officer, West Vancouver Police Department
We have decided to close this fundraiser in favour of starting one locally in BC, for logistical reasons. A link will be posted shortly.
Thank you so much to all of our generous supporters.
