David Patrick Shaker
December 11, 1958 - June 7, 2023
David Patrick Shaker, a loving husband, father, grandfather, and dear friend, passed away on June 7, 2023, in his home, Pinconning, Michigan, leaving behind a legacy of love, laughter, and treasured memories. Born on December 11, 1958, in Flint, Michigan. He attended Flint Northern High School, where he forged lasting friendships. On May 26, 1978, Dave welcomed his first child, David Lee Shaker, into the world with Charlene McGee.
In the summer of 1978, Dave met his wife of 35 years, Amy (Lehmkuhle) Shaker, through a mutual friend, Chris Schmitzer. They were married on November 3, 1984, at Our Lady of Lebanon in Flint, Michigan. Amy and Dave loved exploring the great outdoors. They enjoyed driving the trails of the Manistee National Forest and embarked on memorable cross-country trips with their pop-up trailer, accompanied by their beloved teddy bear hamster, Kitty. Among their many adventures, they experienced the excitement of attending the 1984 Summer Olympics in Los Angeles, California. Although Dave and Amy separated recently, they continued to share love and a deep friendship.
In 1991, Amy and Dave moved to Pinconning and created a home where they raised their four daughters: Shannon, Sarah, Samantha, and Sophia. Dave had an adventurous spirit, and throughout his life, he found joy in various hobbies and pursued a range of professions. He dedicated his time and skills to companies such as Town and Country, Williams Cheese, Jasper Engines and Transmissions, and Shakeman Distributors. In his leisure time, he enjoyed golfing, following NASCAR races, and indulging in his favorite game shows. Dave was also an excellent cook and found pleasure in sharing delicious meals with his loved ones and friends. Euchre and dice games brought him joy, and his fun-loving nature lit up every gathering.
David will forever be remembered as a loving father to his children: David, Shannon, Sarah, Samantha, and Sophia. His pride and joy extended to his adored grandchildren: Treasure, Kirstin, Judah, and Isla. His daughters' most cherished memories include accompanying him on "Take Your Daughter to Work" days, drinking margaritas, participating in golf scrambles, watching Jeopardy, and enjoying the Lebanese recipes he cooked and shared. Watching Dave embrace the role of a loving grandfather to Judah and Isla brought immeasurable happiness to both Sarah and her father.
David was preceded in death by his parents, Delore Shaker and Dorothy (Mecum) Garretson, and his brothers, George and Robert (Bobby) Shaker. He is survived by his siblings: Thomas, Joseph, and Scott Shaker, along with nieces and nephews.
As we gather to celebrate the life of David Patrick Shaker, we invite friends and family to join us in a Celebration of Life at Our Lady of Lebanon on July 8th, 2023, from 3:00 pm to 7:00 pm, to honor his memory. For any questions, please contact Shannon Shaker at [email redacted].
