Support Richard & Family

Hello friends and family,
As you might know, I am a special education teacher in a very low-income area of Anaheim, California. One of my students, Richard, needs a lot of support right now and I am reaching out to anyone willing to help.
Richard's older brother was diagnosed, on Christmas day, with Acute Myeloid Leukemia. Chemotherapy and a possible bone marrow transplant are part of his treatment plan. He has been in the hospital for five of the six weeks since his diagnosis and will be going back in tomorrow.
This is hitting the family especially hard because just last year, in March 2022, Richard's little sister also became extremely ill and passed away from complications related to a brain tumor. The family is in mourning. And now they are fighting for another child.
Richard has not been able to return to school since this latest news. He has stayed home to take care of his younger brother and provide emotional support for his mother. He is trying to do school work from home but that is proving difficult as he is struggling with his own mental health.
While we at school will continue to support him academically, I want to do more to help the family with their financial burden. Neither parent can work at the moment since one is constantly at the hospital while the other is taking care of the younger children. I don't know when this might end or how they will pay the medical bills. I just know that I need to try to help.
I have never set up a fund like this before, and I don't like asking for handouts, so I'm out of my comfort zone in asking you to give. But I'm doing it anyway...
Please help if you can. Thank you so much.
