Hello, my name is Anks and I need help paying for the funeral of my grandma. She passed away on December 31st.
For the last 11 years, ever since I turned 18, I have been looking after my grandmother by myself because the rest of my family didn't care for her. The last months of her life were filled with hospital visits due to a lot of health issues which ultimately started affecting her mental health as well. On top of that she had to quarantine over Christmas due to a covid infection. She only tested negative the day before she passed away. I want to fulfill her last wish and give her the funeral she always wanted but can't afford myself which is why I hope you can help me. She is the one on the left in the photo.
My grandma always knew how her funeral should be which she told me very early on. She even had money saved for it which was taken away by my parents while she was still alive - they claimed wanting to "keep it safe" for her, then refused to give it back and ultimately denied that the money has ever existed. It happened several times in the past that they would only reach out to her to borrow money to then never contact her again nor give back the money. Whenever I asked them for help with her care they refused to do anything and even now they refuse to contribute to the funeral. They want to attend, however their exact response was that they won't cover any of the costs until they know how much they inherit from her so I don't think I can count on them. None of us have seen her testament yet since it is kept at a lawyer's office, but as far as I know she didn't have a lot of money or valuables left.
The only person from my family who stepped up after my grandma passed away is my sister who helped me take care of all the paperwork and organising the funeral itself. She is in a very bad financial situation herself which is why she can't contribute any savings either.
The money my grandma had left is just about enough to cover the remaining rent for her apartment. On top of that I don't have a lot of savings myself because I changed my job to a part-time position in order to have more time to take care of my grandma. At this point I ran out of options so I really hope that you can support me putting my grandma to rest. Thank you so much for reading.
