Hi, my name is Jay Carrus, and I’m a student filmmaker born and raised in South Florida, currently working toward my BFA in Film Art from Emerson College and Paris College of Art. I am making my senior thesis film this coming semester, titled Mr Hocks’ Journey, and am looking for assistance with funding.
The project is a conceptual experimental narrative film following an elderly bus driver named Mr. Hocks, who is forcibly sent on a 3-part quest within his own dreams in order to figure out what has happened to his rural Dutch town, which is currently spiraling into chaos as the head authority figures have spontaneously lost their ability to walk or speak.
This film is very inspired by my own experiences as a young person, watching the world around me seemingly unfold before my eyes. It is also my commentary on the sort of ‘mass hysteria’ overtaking the world in the present moment—how, as a collective, we must continue to stand up and speak out against the systems that attempt to keep us divided. With this in mind, I hope this film will inspire those who watch it to look to the communities around them for answers on how to find stability amid the chaos, because without community, we have nothing.
Donating to this campaign will directly help fund current and post-production costs for the cast and crew. By supporting this project, all funds will go directly towards equipment rentals, transportation, production design, and feeding and housing our lovely cast & crew. Every donation will also help me submit to festivals and accomplish my goals. All donors will receive a thank-you during the film's credits as well.
Your contribution would mean the absolute world to me and would help further my future career as a filmmaker.
Thank you :)
