Caryn Freedman Sowa is a beloved friend to many, especially in the Boston music scene--known to all as a happy, kind, fun-loving supporter of the arts and a devoted wife and mother. Caryn also spent most of her career working in the arts and entertainment in managerial roles and event production at theatres and music venues around Boston. For decades Boston music fans have enjoyed Caryn's friendship and support of favorite local musicians. Now it is our turn to support her.

In September 2023, after only a week of symptoms, Caryn discovered she had a brain tumor and had brain surgery within a few days. A week after the surgery and starting recovery, Caryn was diagnosed with a very aggressive, incurable brain cancer. Immediately her life was irrevocably changed to daily medical appointments and treatment of radiation and chemo medication. The side effects are many including changes in stamina, vision and auditory discomfort, and disruption from her previous routine of working and managing her family life.

Friends quickly organized to host a fundraiser to cover some immediate and ongoing costs, yet a huge shortfall remains. People have been asking about vehicles for support, and her close friends have encouraged Caryn to set up a GoFundMe on her behalf to fill this need. We have assured her that people want to participate in giving via GoFundMe, and have thus established this campaign where people can visit, check-in with Caryn, and make donations that support her ongoing medical care.
