Help Misty Get Home!

Howdy folks! It’s me, Misty Skaggs, your friendly neighborhood poet/artist and mutual aid lady, reaching out to you humbly in hopes of finding some help! As many of you know, I have been working hard for the past five years at establishing a homestead on a small piece of property left to me by my grandparents in Elliott County, Kentucky. This move would leave me secure and self reliant! After a couple years of chipping away at it, my family has been able to move a trailer free and clear onto the property. Foundations are level and set, the driveway is established and graveled. We even have an address!

We have also gotten the septic tank/system installed and inspected. That was a big job!

I am SO close to establishing a permanent home! A place that’s been in my family for generations, out in the comfort of the woods where rent money will no longer be an every day worry. Simply put, I need this! For my sanity, for the continued comfort of being housed, for my Mommy. And I need your help to finish making it happen before the lease is up at my current rental home in a couple months.

There are a few vital items still necessary to ensure electric and running water is ready to go for the move. This is the final step y’all!!!! And we’re not starting from scratch here. We have the electric pole and the necessary electrical box. Wiring will need to be replaced in order to pass inspection and get the lights on. It will also be necessary to purchase some concrete in order to cement the pole firmly into place. Concrete will also be used to make a handicap accessible walkway for Mom’s wheelchair. We need quite a bit of pipe in order to hook into “city water”, as the closest neighbors aren’t really close and may need to purchase a large tank in the meantime/for emergencies. It will also be necessary to repair and sure up one wall that was damaged by termites and two windows, complete with frame. We will also need to create a porch and safe ramp that will allow easy access for Mom and her wheelchair as well as installing a little extra insulation and new underpinning if at all possible. No muss, no fuss. These are basics that will make the home fully safe and livable immediately! All donations to this fund will go towards helping Misty get home! For good.
