Please help Bohdi recover!

 

On the morning of Saturday, June 11th, 2022 a tragic accident occured that left Bodhi, age 3, fighting for his life. Our family needs your help to give him a chance of a full recovery.

 

What happened to Bodhi?

 

Heaven and her husband Brad have a beautiful blended family of 6. Heaven is a stay at home mom of Audrey (2) and Bodhi (3), Brad is a K-9 Officer and Iraq War Veteran. The family was house sitting and had spent the day with their close friends at the pool. The next morning, even with security measures in place, Bodhi was found in the pool. Bodhi had become too comfortable in his swim vest and had jumped into the water alone, unbeknownst to Heaven. Heaven began CPR immediately and continued for over 20 minutes until EMS arrived. EMS was able to regain his heart beat and rushed him to Conroe, TX where he was stabilized. He has since been moved to Children's Hospital. Bodhi has swelling on his brain and has not had any response to stimuli. After extensive research there is a very promissing therapy called hyperbaric oxygen therapy (HBOT). Unfortunately it is not covered by insurance, it's very expensive (2,000 to 11,000 per treatment) and the faster the treatment can start the better chance of recovery. The family has one income and just a week ago Brad's mother passed from Crohn’s disease and he has used all of his paid time off spending the last moments with his mother in hospice care.

 

Per the CDC, drowning is the #1 leading cause of death in children ages 1-4. 10 people a day die in accidental drownings, males are twice the risk. 23% of drownings happen when family is gathered at the pool. Toddler drownings are called "silent" because their noses are so small it only takes one breath of water to fill their little lungs so they aren't able to splash around.

 

What is HBOT or hyberbolic oxygen therapy?

 

Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy, or as it is commonly referred to as, HBOT, is a specialized oxygen treatment that enhances your body’s natural healing process just by breathing 100% oxygen in a total body chamber where atmospheric pressure is increased and controlled. Both the increased pressure and the increased oxygen are bioactive and have independent, overlapping, and interactive effects on our body and disease processes. The increased oxygen at pressure allows extra oxygen to reach all of the damaged tissues and helps the body in the healing process. The combination of increased atmospheric pressure and increased oxygen in a total body chamber treats a wide variety of medical conditions, usually as part of an overall medical care plan.

 

Benefits of Hyperbaric Oxygen Treatment for Drowning and Anoxic Brain Injury:

Healing of the brain – or any part of the body – cannot take place if the tissue and cells do not receive the appropriate oxygen levels. The benefits of hyperbaric oxygen treatment for drowning are maximal when the treatment is delivered close to the time of the anoxic injury. While this is the case for all medical conditions, it is especially so for anoxic brain injuries. When delivered within three hours of the anoxic injury, HBOT can prevent as much as 90% or more of the injury, particularly the secondary more devastating component of injury which occurs when blood flow and oxygen are restored. Both the initial injury from loss of oxygen and the secondary injury when a heartbeat is regained cause the loss of large amounts of both gray and white matter. The gray matter is the outer and deep parts of the brain containing brain cells and the white matter is the connecting tracts of the brain.

Like most families we are spread out over the United States. We know that by being transparent with Heaven's story that there may be judgment. Heaven is a wonderful mother who loves her children more than life. She is deligent in safety measures. Her children take swimming lessons. Upon researching for this go fund me we were astonished by the amount of drownings that occur each day.
