My name is Scott Babnik and I have created this page for my friend and co-worker Robert (Brett) Knabel. Brett has been married to his best friend Tracy for the past 18 years, and they have 3 beautiful children together Tyler 17, Brandon 15, and Alexis 12. Brett has dedicated 17 years of his life working in Law Enforcement. Brett began his career in 1999 with the Knox County (IL) Sheriff's Office he then transfered to the Galesburg (IL) Police Department and is now currently with the Lake County (IL) Sheriff's Office. Brett believes his faith in Jesus Christ has always been a very large part of who he is. Brett eventually wants to go into Christian Ministry once he retires from Law Enforcement, so he  returned to school in 2013 to get his Masters in Divinity from Liberty University. Only being able to take one class at a time has made the process longer than he has expected, but he is half way through his degree and he has never been more content.

Brett learned of his brain cancer when he began having dizzy spells which were later confirmed to be seizure activity with one such spell resulting in a black out while he was driving. His Doctor immediately pulled him from work until he found out what was causing the spells. Several test later, including a brain biopsy it was confirmed that Brett was suffering from grade 4 glioblastoma which is the most severe stage of brain cancer. The delicate location of the tumor makes it inoperable; radiation and chemo treatments are expected to shrink the primary tumor but it will probably not eradicate it completely.

The money rasied here on go fund me will be used to help the family pay for Brett's medical expenses which are not covered by insurance. I am sure Brett would not want me to end this unless I stress once again how God has been faithful to him in all this, so I will leave you with a quote from (Psalm 23:4) "Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death , I will fear no evil, for You are with me; Your rod and Your staff, they comfort me."
