My name is Kaydie Ziegler and I am Jillian Zieglers sister.
I know some of you have followed her story and for those of you who are just hearing about it, here is a piece if her story.
My sister is 23 years old and for over two years now she has spent more time in the hospital than she has at home and all of it has been in the ICU. My sister is a Type1 diabetic and she is only the 5th person in the world who has ever been diagnosed with Subcutaneous Insulin Resistance Syndrome. Being a T1 you usually get insulin by using an insulin pump that is subcutaneous or by giving injections. Due to her diagnosis she has been strapped to an IV with a central line going thru her chest for over 2 years.
It got to the point where the insulin was not doing anything, she has been DKA 34 times in the last 5 years. She spent months at Loma Linda accumulating to over a year. Unfortunatetly, nothing worked and she even went to France to get a surgically implanted pump placed in her; where only a few short weeks it failed.
Since being diagnosed she has developed severe seizures leaving her intubated upon multiple occasions, in sevevere pain, and othet metabolic disorders.
The Mayo Clinic in Minnesota has finally taken interest in her and wants to help her, see what diagnoses they may come up with, what trials and others things they may do to help her. They believe with a special team of doctors they will be able to researh her illness and help her in amazing ways. This could change her life forever. Not needing 24/7 nursing care, needing to be attached to an Iv, have surgery after surgery to place line after line in , be stuck in a hospital for months at a time. It would be amazing for her to have some-what of a normal life.
Please help us get Jillian to the Mayo Clinic in Minnesota!
