Hi, this is Bret Silverman and I'm fundraising for Megan Henderson. Megan had extensive surgery on her right foot this past winter, to correct some serious problems she was having. Although the surgery itself was "successful," she developed an after-effect called Complex Regional Pain Syndrome, or CRPS, a disorder where the nervous system goes haywire in the region of the body that was operated on.
Megan has been living for more than four months with: severe leg/foot pain (sensations of burning, stabbing, crushing), inability to set her foot down on the floor for any length of time without it turning purple, full body convulsions that can strike without warning. She stays in the house, sleeps on the couch in the livingroom and uses a wheelchair and crutches just to feed herself or use the bathroom. Medications sometimes take the edge off the pain but then it returns full force. Basically she has been incapacitated.
There is a pain center called Boston Mind Care in Lexington, MA, (https://bostonmindcare.com/services/crps/) where they use ketamine, a powerful anesthetic, to undo the grip of pain and help the nervous system rewire itself. The treatments cost $1,600 each and are not covered by Megan's insurance. My aim is to raise $5,000 for Megan so that she can try this treatment to get out of the disastrous place she is currently in. $5,000 would pay for three treatments plus a little cushion for traveling expenses.
I know it would mean the world to Megan and those who love her to see her out of pain and back in the functioning world. If we all put in whatever we can, $5,000 seems quite attainable.
P.S. GoFundMe takes a modest 3% off the top of each donation for administrative purposes, so if you have a contribution amount in mind, you might want to consider adding 3% to it. Anything you give is greatly appreciated.
