Please help Eli overcome Plagiocephaly (flat head syndrome)
Donation protected
Hi , my name is Lucy Hodges and I’m raising funds to provide treatment for our youngest son, Eli of almost six months old who has recently been diagnosed with moderate to severe plagiocephaly with brachycephaly which is a flattening on the side of his head and back of head either due to certain conditions in the womb, birth and lying in a favoured position.
This has no negative impact on the brain development but he presents with one ear positioned more forward than the other along with his left side of face that is moving forward.
Sadly the NHS does not provide any treatment for this and they say that if this condition is not moderate to severe then it can rectify by itself fully however Eli
has been to see a private clinician about his condition and they have said that at this stage it will not improve by itself without intervention and it’s likely to get worse up until he is eight months old and thereafter remain as it is.
This needs to be treated as soon as possible because after 12 months old the head is not as malleable and therefore cannot improve.
The intervention that is necessary is to wear a tailor made cranial helmet for up to seven months with regular follow ups in between costing a total of £2350.
The concern is when he grows up, according to the clinician is that he will not fit into a cycling helmet which will make it unsafe for him to use a bike/ scooter etc, wearing glasses could be affected, he could also be bullied at school and his jawline could shift which can change his bite. There has also been some
evidence indicating developmental delays linked with plagiocephaly.
As parents we feel it is crucial that he receives this intervention and would not want to live in regret when he gets older. We would be SO grateful for any support to make it possible for our son to receive this treatment.
Thank you so much!
