What should have been a happy day suddenly turned out to be a big blow to Jackie. On her birthday, she found herself on the ground unable to walk. Later in the hospital, she found out that she has Transverse Myelitis and ANCA Vasuculitis. Transverse Myelitis is a rare neurological condition caused by inflammation of the spinal cord while ANCA Vasuculitis is a rare autoimmune disease that causes inflammation and damage to blood vessels. Because of the inflammation, her spinal nerves are damaged. Jackie found herself paralyzed from armpits down. Because of her condition, she is unable to care for herself or her beloved dog, Dingo. Three months later, she had to send Dingo away which completely broke her. Jackie is now in a nursing facility unable to move and has lost all hope. She still tries to smile for us though…

When I arrived in U.S 14 years ago, I had no family or friend. I met Jackie at a children’s library. My son was just 3 months old and Jackie was my only friend. She helped me settle in the U.S, and understand the culture. She led me out of my dark, lonely hiding place. Without Jackie, maybe I wouldn’t have survived. I want to do something for Jackie. Jackie was a fighter. She survived breast cancer and all the difficult moments in life. She always shone like a star. Even when she feels depressed, she still smiled for everyone!

Jackie is unable to receive therapy because she cannot afford it. She is completely bedridden. The funds collected will all go to Jackie for her medical needs.
